"Fracture of the tibia at the medial plateau....."
Right there, at the medial tibial plateau - that's where my husband's leg was broken in a car accident a few hours after I posted my last Poetry Friday poem. Two operations later, he's home now and I'm trying to be a good nurse. Our month-long trip to Spain, scheduled to start a few days after the accident, was canceled. And Nando's retirement, which was to be celebrated by our trip, is not off to a great start. Life goes upside down fast, but we're looking for the positive - we know we're lucky it was only a broken leg. And we're in recovery mode. And I'm looking for a word that rhymes with tibia (amphibia? inhibia? Nambibia?)
Will be back to drift around here soon - after "aggressive range of motion therapy."

Sorry to hear this, Julie. Sending positive healing vibes to your husband. ((hugs)) to both of you!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jama!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to see this post. Been waiting for you to drift back into view. Love to you and Nando.
ReplyDeleteOh,no! But so thankful it wasn't worse. So sorry about the postponement of your trip. I hope you can reschedule soon and that it will be even better than the originally planned adventure!
ReplyDeleteOh, Julie. I am so sorry. Janet Fox and I were just talking about you this morning over breakfast, and with that talk in mind, I came to visit your blog this evening. Sigh. I hope your husband will heal quickly and that you will both soon be back on the road to retirement-celebration and travel.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lindsey, Kirby and Amy - one of the most helpful things is knowing how sweet and supportive people are. Faith in humanity remains strong! (And that's hard to say just before an election....)
ReplyDeleteI suggest foo-ibia, crapibia and the near rhyme of "gah, I hope your hubby heals and y'all get to travel soon to Spain and see Valencia"
ReplyDeleteThanks for the good laugh, Greg! I also have liked near rhymes!!
ReplyDeleteI see a bony poem in your future. And a happy retirement, soon.
ReplyDeleteCarol, you know me too well! Let's see - bones, clones, drones, phones, groans (lots of those, loans, moans (more of those, tones, zones. Poem, here I come.
ReplyDeleteBelated sorry to hear your news. Yes, it could have been worse, so that's good that it wasn't. But still, poor you guys. Hope things look brighter soon. A cast that's good for signing with poetic lines?
ReplyDeleteJulie,
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your husband's accident. I hope he has a quick recovery and that you can reschedule your trip in the not-too-distant future.
Thanks, Martha and Elaine!
ReplyDeleteRe: Casts that are signable....those might be a thing of the past. Nando is in a removable brace, and within a week of getting out of the hospital the physical therapists had him bending his knee and flexing his foot. Seems casts are great for signing but not so great for healing!
Julie, so sorry to hear about Nando. What's harder to play, the patient or the nurse? Tell Nando to take his pain medicine and get some rest, so he can recover for a well-earned trip. :)
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't rhyme with tibia, but the bone right next to the tibia is the fibula, the femur is the long thigh bone, and the knee-cap is the patella. Have fun with those!
Patti, I think maybe being the nurse is harder. My own pain I can handle...but oh, it is hard to see someone you love in pain. Terrible! Plus, I am just so ridiculously bad with blood, stitches, scars - my head tells me it's time to faint. No kidding. At least with my broken wrist, nothing showed!
ReplyDeletePatti, I forgot to say okay, I will give "fibula" a try (fibula - sounds like a little lie) and I'll throw in femur (didn't I just see one of those at the zoo?) and patella (an old family recipe, brought over from Palermo?) for good luck. Poem in July, for my VCFA reading, but I'll send you a copy if you can't make it.
