Poetry Friday: No sign of potato salad, no sign of lemonade....

Summer Song
Wanderer moon
smiling a
faintly ironical smile
at this
brilliant, dew-moistened
summer morning —
a detached
sleepily indifferent
smile, a
wanderer's smile —
if I should
buy a shirt
your color and
put on a necktie
where would they carry me?
Amy at THE POEM FARM is hosting Poetry Friday this week.
Head over there to check the links out!

  1. We had summer in spades last weekend in DC: heat, humidity, sun, pop-up thunderstorms...This weekend summer is giving us a little bit of a break...for now. Hopefully your NON-summer will break and give you a chance for the potato salad and lemonade!

  2. We need those summer poems to feel summer, don't we? Thanks for the reminder...Portland has been about the same.

  3. Julie,
I hope that blue sky days come your way soon. For now it sounds like a picnic in the rain. Here in the east we are finally drying out and warming up. Happy 4th!

  4. Love the way this poems feels in the mouth. Thanks for sharing!

  5. I love the picnic-y pictures followed by a portrait of one of my favorite poets. Really potato salad is better to look at than eat. But i hope you get at least five more minutes of summer soon!

  6. Julie,

Love your poetry selection for this Friday. When I arrived in DC last Saturday, the temperature was 100! I guess I'd prefer rain and temps in the 50's and 60's to that kind of heat.

    Happy Fourth!!!

  7. Wow I don't remember reading that WCW poem before but I love it!! We have a brilliant blue sky and icy moon sailing above a spectacular summer day here. Wish you the same!

  8. Julie,
What a mysterious morning moon...I love him! (Does his smile match that of the WCW photo?) I look forward to your pairings of photos with poems. May summer come!
